Welded rails technology
With welded rails, the materials along the board’s edges are heat-fused so the seam isn’t purely dependent on glue. This approach is typically more reliable long-term, as heat, UV exposure, and temperature swings can contribute to adhesive seam weakening on traditionally glued rails. Welded construction often uses less glue, which can also be a more eco-conscious build.
Double-layer construction – compared to single-layer boards
A double-layer SUP is reinforced with an additional PVC layer, which generally increases stiffness and stability (less flex under load). This is especially noticeable for heavier paddlers or when carrying kids and gear, making the board feel more solid and calmer on the water.
Very budget single-layer boards can flex more and may be more prone to abrasion or punctures. Double-layer builds can be slightly heavier, but the trade-off is typically better durability and stability.
