THE BEST SUP SERVICE IN SLOVENIA
We repair all types of SUP boards.
SUP SERVICE
- We repair both SUP boards purchased from us and boards from other manufacturers/retailers. A lot can be repaired, but of course not everything.
- You must book your service appointment by calling +386 40 867 867 or emailing info@wasup.si. If the workshop is full, we will not accept equipment without a prior appointment.
- The expected repair time is approximately 7–10 days. If the workshop is busy, the turnaround time may be longer. It cannot be shortened. A SUP board needs to be glued and left to dry, so we can’t repair anything “by tomorrow.”
- Boards brought in for service must be collected within 10 days of being notified; otherwise, a storage fee of €5 per week will be charged.
- The service is closed during the cold months.
SUP IS LEAKING AT THE SEAM
Almost all glued SUP boards will eventually start leaking at the seam. The adhesive is expected to last 5–10 years, and after that you can expect problems. The leak may be very small, as shown in the photo, or the seam can open completely along the edge. In most cases this can be repaired and costs €50 for a minor issue, but it can be more if the crack is long.
Good to know:
- If your SUP is under warranty, take it back to the seller. This is a warranty defect if it happens within the warranty period. Don’t let anyone convince you it’s your fault because you used it in the sun or some other nonsense. It happened due to a manufacturing defect.
- If your SUP is older, we can repair it and the repaired area will hold. However, it may start leaking somewhere else because the original adhesive is already old. This could happen in 2 years—or in 2 hours. The risk is yours. The warranty on the repair applies only to the section we have glued.
- Even if it’s only leaking a little, as in the photo, a patch won’t help for long. The photo only shows where the air escaped at the outer edge. If you patch that, the SUP is still leaking at the inner seam, and the air will soon find a way out through the outer edge again. The board needs to be “opened,” the inner seam leak located (that’s why there’s a stethoscope in the photo above), then the inner seam is re-glued and finally the outer seam is sealed as well.
DOUBLE CHAMBER SUP
We also see a lot of two-chamber SUPs in Slovenia. Most commonly these are Lidl Mistral and F2 boards—you can recognize them by the two valves. Two-chamber SUPs were created mainly for safety reasons: somewhere along the line, someone decided you need a two-chamber SUP if you want to paddle far from shore (this is not a requirement here, though). If a SUP is well made, the additional chamber can also make the board feel stiffer under your feet, because where you stand you effectively get a double layer of material—the transition between the inner and outer chamber.
When a guy weighing 130+ kg comes into the shop and wants to stand on a SUP and paddle normally, I typically recommend a two-chamber Starboard. But that costs €1,500.
So why don’t we like cheap two-chamber SUPs—and why don’t we sell them? Because manufacturers of low-cost models have realized that an extra chamber can “reinforce” weaker material enough to make the SUP somewhat usable for paddling while standing. In other words: even worse drop-stitch, and it’s still usable… That’s how you get a Lidl SUP: perfectly OK for playing around in a bay, but unfortunately not for heavier paddlers.
The main issue is that a two-chamber SUP has roughly twice as many glued seams as a standard SUP. And glued seams weaken over time. If the inner seam fails, the SUP is basically trash.
We do accept two-chamber SUPs for servicing, but the service fee of €50 must be paid in advance. Too many times a customer has claimed it’s leaking on the outer edge, we fix that, and then we discover it’s also leaking at the inner seam…
PUNCTURED SUP
If you have physically damaged your SUP and it has a hole, it is easy repairable. A patch up to 5 cm costs €40; larger damage may cost more.
Possible additional costs:
- If the SUP has already been repaired and still doesn’t hold, we additionally charge €20 for removing existing patches and cleaning off the applied glue.
- If the damage is under the non-slip EVA deck pad, we first need to remove the pad, apply the patch, and then reattach the non-slip pad. If the pad is good quality, this is easier. If it’s too cheap, it can tear, which causes complications, extra costs, and the repair may end up being visible.
- You can also patch the hole yourself using the included repair kit. Make sure the glue isn’t too old. Clean the damaged area. Apply glue to both the SUP and the patch. Wait for it to dry a little. Apply a bit more glue and place the patch over the hole. If you can warm it up (hair dryer), even better. Weigh it down and leave it for 24 hours to dry properly.
- The easiest way to find a leak location is while you’re on the water. If you only tell us it’s leaking somewhere but you don’t know where, leak detection alone costs €20.
MY SUP IS LEAKING AROUND THE VALVE
It often happens that a SUP leaks around the valve. Bubbles form around the valve, or around the markings near the valve. You should know that the valve is not glued to the board—it is screwed in. It consists of an inner and an outer part. If bubbles appear around the valve, take the valve wrench (you received it with the SUP) and tighten the valve by a quarter turn. Spray it with water and hope the bubbles are gone.
Very rarely, the valve itself is actually leaking. In that case, it needs to be replaced entirely, and the cost is €50, provided we have the correct valve in stock.
If you bring the SUP to us because it’s leaking somewhere and we find that it only needs the valve tightened, the service fee is €20.
HOW DO I TIGHTEN THE VALVE ON A SUP
OTHER REPAIRS
The three issues above are by far the most common. However, many other things can happen as well. Call +386 40 867 867 and we’ll tell you whether it can be fixed.
BUBBLES UNDER THE NON-SLIP DECK PAD
Sometimes air bubbles form under the standing/deck pad. This often happens even on a new SUP (it is covered by warranty). There can be different reasons. Most often it’s a worker’s mistake, because these pads are usually glued on by hand. First of all—don’t panic. Your SUP is not leaking. This is only a cosmetic issue. If the bubble is small, take a needle and pierce THE BUBBLE from the side. Push the air out, weigh it down so it bonds back, and that should solve it. If the bubble is larger, bring it to us—we’ll inject some additional glue.
PEELING/OFF PARTS (FIN BOX, D-RING, DECK PAD)
Glue is an ongoing issue. Heat, sun, salt, water… none of that is good for adhesive, and over time it loosens. But everything can be glued back on and it will hold again.
ADDING D-RINGS FOR A KAYAK SEAT
This can be done, but it depends on what you expect. On a new SUP, the rings are glued on and then the non-slip deck pad is placed over them. Removing the pad, cutting it, and reattaching it isn’t something everyone is willing to pay for.
ADDITIONAL FIN
One large center fin is all a SUP needs. We don’t add small side fins because it doesn’t make sense. However, we can add another large center fin to the middle of your SUP so you can try using a wing with your board. Price approx. €100.
