Construction
Weave Technology - DLW
The Plus range from Shark SUP features 1000 denier laminated weave technology, offering a lighter board with higher tensile strength, delivering enhanced stiffness, durability, and performance. The construction utilises 1000 denier woven fabric as the substrate, which is expertly bonded and reinforced with a premium single layer laminate, creating a robust structure capable of withstanding up to 20 PSI of pressure and keeping a weight to a minimum.
Why is Woven Fabric Lighter than Knitted Fabric (Fusion)?
The ‘weave’ of woven fabric not only creates high tensile strength, making the board stiffer, but the weave is also flatter. This flatness reduces the bumps for the laminate to fill, minimising the amount of laminate used. Since the laminate significantly contributes to weight (which is why double-glued boards are considerably heavier, as they include laminate, glue, and another laminate layer), woven fabric effectively reduces overall weight.
Triple Rail Edge with Welded Rail Technology
The Shark SUP’s triple rail brings numerous design advancements. When combined with all the other Shark SUP’s Tec innovations, the paddling experience becomes incredible. The triple rail edge on Shark SUP’s is integrated with welded rail technology.
What Does This Mean?
On Shark SUP’s, the triple rail edge design (the top and bottom of the board) extends around to the side rail, almost touching. The top and bottom sheets (top and bottom of the board) are then heat-welded together with the first rail edge (no glue is used in this process). This rounded connection on the side rail significantly increases stiffness, reduces flex, and optimises rigidity. It also creates a C curve, allowing the board to sit lower in the water, enhancing its performance, which is especially noticeable in windy conditions.
To enhance the durability of the rail edge, the process is completed by using environmentally safe glue (toluene-free) to bond a 1000-denier rail edge over the welded rail.
Why Is a Rail Edge Glued Over the Welded Rail?
The welded rail creates a bond that cannot come undone through seam failure due to heat (for example, on a hot day). However, the weld only bonds the first rail edge of the board. To further protect the edge of the board, a second rail is added. To protect it to an even higher level, the rail is made from 1000 denier substrate. By using this high-quality substrate, the rail edge and board gains additional stiffness and reduced flex.
Refined Nose
The refined nose of Shark SUP’s features a carefully crafted curved shape. This design not only drives powerfully through the water, enhancing performance and speed, but also allows wind to flow over the nose effortlessly, reducing drag and enabling the board to cut through the water with minimal resistance. Simultaneously, the water flows smoothly around the nose, reducing turbulence and increasing stability.
This streamlined design maximises the board’s ability to glide effortlessly over the water’s surface, offering a perfect balance of speed, agility, and control.
Flat Rocker
The Shark team of riders and designers have delved into the needs of board shape to the highest ‘geek’ levels, testing multiple board shapes on the water to determine what provides the best glide on flat waters, lakes, rivers, and seas.
The 0% rocker offers a significant performance boost for longboard paddling and enhances the ride of performance all-around boards, touring boards, and racing boards. This technological advancement delivers many benefits for an evolved paddling experience.
The 0% rocker creates more glide by utilising the full length of the board. It also improves direction, as the refined nose stays at the waterline, aiding in water displacement. Additionally, it almost eliminates drag from head-on wind. The combination of the 0% rocker, refined nose, and triple rail edge design results in an organic shape that allows wind and water to flow smoothly over the board, making it less affected by wind.

20 PSI Construction
