What that means in practice:
- It helps you stay afloat and reduces the effort needed to swim.
- It’s not a lifejacket in the “self-righting” sense: 50N vests are typically buoyancy aids for active sports (SUP, kayaking, sailing) and are intended for competent swimmers.
- It won’t turn you onto your back and keep your airway clear if you’re unconscious (that’s more typical of 100N/150N lifejackets).
- It works best when it fits correctly and is tightened properly, otherwise it can ride up in the water.
